The name Julie K Nail Artelier was inspired by combining the word “Atelier,” French for an artist’s workshop, with Nail Art. Kandalec was inspired by a trip to the city of love and romance, Paris: “on a trip to Paris, I knew that one day I wanted to use the word Atelier if I ever opened a salon.” She then brought that passion back to the city of dreams: New York City.
“The idea to open a private boutique nail studio blossomed out of the COVID-19 pandemic and its dire effect on the nail industry that had been nearly destroyed. While many people are still not comfortable walking into larger salons and house calls aren’t an option for everyone either due to space, safety concerns, or are cost prohibitive, I decided to cater to the needs of those clients that are looking for a private, high-end experience, without the crowdedness of a large salon. Essentially, I wanted to create a cozy, living room feel to make the experience as comfortable as possible,” said Kandalec.
“Additionally, a disparaging and factually incorrect article on the nail industry was recently printed by the New York Times, which not only angered me and my colleagues, but also made me realize that so many consumers are miseducated on the nail industry as a whole. Many clients don’t have a personal relationship with their nail professional, and I wanted to make it more the norm than a rarity,” said Kandalec.
Julie K Nail Artelier will follow strict CDC guidelines and COVID cleanliness & safety procedures. Walk-ins are not allowed, and all services are private and, on an appointment-only basis. Appointments will be spaced out, with time in between each appointment to ensure proper cleanliness & disinfecting. Julie’s guests will enjoy a private experience, but in the instance that they would like to have a service with a friend or relative, there is a second nail table six feet away to accommodate them as a “private party of two,” performed by one of Kandalec’s top colleagues. What sets this apart from a traditional nail salon is that guests will never share a space with any other clients at the same time.
